Most pedigree dog breeds are grouped into three general categories:- Small, Medium. Large.
There is often an overlap, some bigger "small" dogs can sometimes be defined as medium and likewise some smaller "large" dogs may be classified as medium.
Some other groupings are sometimes seen, Toy dogs, Teacup dogs (both very small dogs) and Giant dogs

For many people, the average adult size of a dog breed can be a very important factor when choosing a dog.
The size of a breed can often provide a useful guide, certain characteristics are often shared by dog size groups.
Many big dog breeds will usually eat more, need more exercise and can be prone to certain health problems.
Medium size dogs will often be bred from working breeds.
